The top three candidates in the race for the U.S. Senate in Maine can't agree on whether the institution is in need of repair.
Former independent Gov. Angus King has campaigned on the theme the Senate is broken. He told an audience in Lewiston on Monday an independent voice can help bridge the partisan divide.
Democrat Cynthia Dill says the system isn't broken for wealthy people like King but is broken for working-class families.
Republican Secretary of State Charlie Summers disagrees with the premise. He says the system isn't broken but lacks strong leadership.
It was the second debate featuring the three candidates. It was sponsored by the Sun Journal newspaper.
Independents Steve Woods, Danny Dalton and Andrew Ian Dodges weren't invited to participate.
