Driver Tries to Run Down Maine trooper

3

Maine State Police arrested a Portland driver who tried to retaliate after getting pulled over.

Police say 23-year-old Matthew Cole drove off when Trooper Kyle Wells tried to pull him over for an expired registration.

The trooper was outside his vehicle when police say Cole began backing up toward him.

Police say the trooper fired at Cole's car and Cole was not injured. He was arrested, and placed in the Cumberland County Jail.

Authorities say Cole was charged with eluding a police officer and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

As is standard procedure, the trooper was placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the investigation.
