Lawyer for Augusta Man Accused of Stabbing his Roommate Wants Evidence Dismissed

3

Augusta - A lawyer for an Augusta man accused of fatally stabbing his roommate and partner has asked a judge to dismiss as evidence interviews her client had with investigators.

The lawyer for 41-year-old Michael Young told a judge Thursday in Kennebec County Superior Court her client was not involved in the June 2011 death of David Cox. She said it was an accident.

The Kennebec Journal, reports that attorney Pam Ames said Cox was tinkering with Young's bicycle and that Young only heard a "bang." She said Young saw Cox slumped over the bicycle with a knife in his chest.

Prosecutors have said they don't believe Young's story because the medical examiner determined the stab wound was not consistent with an accident.

Young remains in jail on $500,000 cash bail.
