A man from Chelsea has pleaded guilty to falsely collecting travel benefits from the V.A.
Court records say 54-year old Stephen Longstaff submitted more than 150 claims to the V.A., stating he was travelling from Washington and Hancock counties to the Togus Medical Center.
A V.A. investigator discovered Longstaff lived close to the center and not in Charlotte, Maine, which is 350 miles away.
The V.A. paid Longstaff more than $17,000.
He faces up to five years in prison when sentenced.
