Man Charged with Assault after Forcing into a Bangor Home


Bangor - A man has been charged after allegedly forcing his way into a home on Hammond Street in Bangor.

Bangor police say 32-year-old Shane Sapiel has been charged with two felonies; Gross Sexual Assault and Aggravated Assault.

Detective Larry Morrill received a report investigation from a 23-year-old woman who said Sapiel forced his way into her apartment just after midnight on September 2nd.

The victim says the 32-year-old man assaulted her with a knife and then sexually assaulted her.

Sapiel has a lengthy criminal record, including a domestic violence case in May. He was supposed to be sentenced for that case on Friday.

He remains at the Penobscot County Jail. His bail is set at $25,000 cash.
