Machias Police Look for Driver Responsible for Starting Hospital Fire

Machias - Police are looking for the driver of a car that crashed into a utility pole in Machias last night, sparking a fire at Down East Community Hospital.

Fire crews say a crash on Court Street around 9:30 caused a power surge at the hospital, leading to an electrical fire.

There was a lot of smoke in the radiology wing, but no one had to be evacuated.

A nurse was held overnight for observation for smoke inhalation.

Police believe the driver was injured in the crash.
