High Profile Cases To Go Before Appeals Court

Bangor - Some of Maine's highest profile cases will be in appeals court this week.

The State Supreme Judicial Court is hearing arguments Wednesday in the appeal of 34-year-old Nathanael Nightingale of Burlington.

He was convicted of murder and manslaughter in the 2009 shooting deaths of Valerie and Mike Miller in Webster Plantation.

The court will also hear the appeal of 24-year-old Garrett Cheney on Wednesday.

He is doing time for manslaughter in the 2010 hit-and-run death of 20-year-old Jordyn Bakely, a Camden woman who was a student at the University of Maine.

Cheney was sentenced to seven years in prison.

And Niklas Jones pleaded guilty last year to killing his 3-month old daughter in 2009.

The state medical examiner said she died from blunt trauma to the head.

Jones was sentenced to six years.
