Dinner and Auction Raise Money for Alzheimer's Research and Education

Bangor - A crowd dined out in Bangor Thursday night for a good cause.

A spaghetti dinner and silent auction held at the Elk's Club raised money for the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

The event is an annual fundraiser that organizer, Kristie Miner, said helps pay for some of the work the association does.

"It costs money to support the staff of the association, which is really bare bones, but they do a great job covering the state with educational opportunities and support group," said Miner, who works at the Bangor nursing and rehabilitation center, Westgate Manor.

The event was the first of two major fundraisers for the group. Saturday, October 6, the group will hold its Walk to End Alzheimer's in Bangor.
