Bangor -
A Bangor man who admitted in April to beating and stealing money from his father was sentenced Wednesday.
Frederick Ward, 32, was sentenced to ten years in prison for burglary and robbery charges.
On the night of the attack in November, Ward entered his father's house twice, assaulting him both times and demanding his ATM card.
Prosecutors say ward was high on bath salts at the time.
Ward had a lengthy criminal history, as well as mental health issues.
"Given what he did here we could have looked at a higher sentence, potentially, but his father supported this sentence. He does have a substantial mental health history, as well, which we had to take into account, and, you know, aside from what he did, he has been apologetic, remorseful, and cooperative with authorities since these events occurred," said Penobscot County Deputy District Attorney, Michael Roberts.
He apologized to his father in court Wednesday. It was the first time he had seen him since the night he was charged.
