The Veazie Sewer District is facing a budget shortfall.
It's a problem that could end up costing taxpayers.
At a town council meeting Tuesday night, Rob Tomilson, the Chairperson of the Veazie Sewer District Trustees Sewer District, asked councilors to move up a payment to the district that is not due until December.
The council denied that request, saying they will not have a clear understanding of the town's cash flow until residents begin paying taxes at the end of September.
The sewer district must make a debt service payment on October 1st.
One of the only options to make that payment is a loan.
Tomilson says he wishes it didn't have to come down to that and goes on to say, "The taxpayers and the rate payers have to pay these fees because it's a cost of a public entity so there will be an impact on the local taxpayers and the local sewer district taxpayers."
The sewer district has already started the process of applying for a loan.
