Hermon -
The grand opening of Hermon Family Dental marked a big day for the town.
"It does fill a void. There isn't any other dental practice in town right now and it does cap off the vision we've had for the plaza and for the village area to be able to provide residents with all of these essential services for the community," sais Ron Harriman, the Hermon Economic Development Director.
Dr. Benjamin Phillips had a goal in mind when designing his practice: Making dental visits, well, not so dreadful. And maybe even fun.
"It's all about the patient's experience. I want them to be comfortable and want to come back. Nobody likes coming to the dentist, but if you can make it a little more enjoyable, I think that will accomplish my goal," said Phillips.
The lobby is family-friendly, with lots for the little ones to do.
"They have a place they can go into and they can play video games, or they can play in the toy kitchen or they can draw or do their homework," said Phillips.
Once yo get to the dentist's chair, which is equipped with massage, it can be actually rather fun.
"The treatment rooms are very comfortable. There's tv's in them and you can lie back and watch a movie and relax, instead of having to stare at the ceiling the whole time," said Phillips.
So far, so good, for one new patient.
"Wonderful! The first think that got to me was the sink because nowadays, there's a lot of dentistry you go to and there's no sink," said Linda Michaud.
"I thought, wow. It really does have the wow factor. It's very relaxing. It almost make somebody want to go to the dentist," said Harriman.
Which should make those in the area very happy with the new service and the direction the town of Hermon is moving in general.
"That's why we are so pleased. They've been asking for a grocery store, a hardware store, a dental practice. We have a doctor's office a few doors down. We have all of these services to make our community complete," said Harriman.
And with an dentist like this, it's enough to make anyone smile.
