Six People Killed in Maine Crashes during Labor Day Weekend


Augusta - The 2012 Labor Day weekend was the deadliest on Maine roads since 1986.

Officials with Maine's Bureau of Highway Safety say six people were killed in crashed during the long weekend.

In 1986, ten people were killed in traffic crashes during Labor Day weekend. Last year, there were five.

The 2012 weekend deaths included " two separate motorcycle crashes, including one that struck a moose in Dennistown, the state's first fatal moose collision in almost two years," said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, via a press release.
