Dozens of Artists Create Paintings at Camden Windjammer Festival to be Auctioned Off

3

Camden - A group of artists were at the Windjammer Festival in Camden this weekend using the ships as inspiration.

Nearly 30 painters teamed up with the Camden Falls Gallery to set up their canvasses outside and paint the harbor scene.

The artists say it's tricky because the weather and lighting are constantly changing, but the windjammers themselves were docked and staying put, so it was a great opportunity for these painters to see their subjects up close.

"I'm just coming out here to paint and enjoy the day and paint as many boats as I can," said painter Monique Lazard.

Another painter Collin Page added, "They spend most of the weekdays sailing out, so on the weekends when they're in town it's nice because they're right up to shore so I can see them really well. And I just think the old wooden boats make really nice shapes and make for good compositions."

The paintings were auctioned off Sunday afternoon as a fundraiser for the festival.
