Oakland Teachers Take Pay Cut to Help Reach Flat Budget

Oakland - The teachers of RSU 18 in the Oakland area have stepped up to try to solve their district's budget issues.

Earlier this month, voters rejected the budget for a second time.

Superintendent Gary Smith says teachers have volunteered to take a pay cut.

The teachers made the offer in an attempt to help the district reach a flat budget.

Smith says the pay cut would save the district about 60-thousand-dollars.

The budget now heads to voters during a district budget meeting scheduled for September 20th.

It's at the Performing Arts Center in Messalonskee High School.

There's also a district-wide referendum on October second.
