Brunswick School Superintendent Stands by his Remarks Criticizing Gov. LePage

Brunswick - Brunswick's school superintendent is apologizing for his harsh criticism of Gov. Paul LePage - sort of.

Paul Perzanoski is not recanting his remarks, but says the forum he used - a welcome back to school letter for employees - was inappropriate.

The Portland Press Herald, reports that Perzanoski issued an apology dated Tuesday.

Perzanoski said he stands by the message he sent to staff Aug. 17 and statements he gave in interviews after: that public education has been unfairly maligned by the governor and others.

The letter said the Republican governor "needs remediation in civility, public speaking, telling the truth, diplomacy and following the law." It challenges him to take the SAT "and make the results public."

A spokeswoman for the governor called the comments "wildly inappropriate" and "defamatory."
