Maine Paper Industry Officials Concerned over Plans to Re-Open Nova Scotia Paper Mill

Maine paper industry officials are concerned over plans to re-open a failed paper mill in Nova Scotia.

The plan calls for 125-million dollars in government help to restart the Newpage Mill on Cape Breton.

About 1-thousand people were put out of work when the mill closed about a year ago.

A candian company has bought the mill with plans to restart, on a smaller scale.

Maine paper officials fear that Canadian government subsidies will let the mill sell products at lower prices.

the Canadian mill makes magazine and catalogue paper similar to that made by some of Maine's largest mills.
