Milo -
The former Milo town manager is expected to plead guilty Tuesday for stealing at least $45,000 from the local Kiwanis club.
Most of that money has already been paid back.
Deputy District Attorney Mike Roberts tells TV5 Jeff Gahagan is scheduled to appear in court in Dover-Foxcroft on one felony count of theft.
Roberts says Gahagan is planning to admit to the charge and skip the process of being indicted.
Gahagan resigned in April as Milo's town manager and as the treasurer of the Three Rivers Kiwanis club.
At the time he was at the center of an investigation by Piscataquis County Sheriff's office.
Roberts says the investigation determined $51,000 was missing from the club, though Gahagan told authorities he believed he took $45,000.
The Milo Police Chief says a town audit turned up an additional $600 missing from a joint account the Kiwanis club created with the town.
Roberts say Gahagan has been very cooperative with the investigation and that "what Gahagan did was very wrong but since this has come out he's done everything he could do to make it right."
He adds that it appears Gahagan spent the money on ordinary living expenses and family matters.
The felony theft charge carries a maximum 10 year sentence.
Roberts says discussions are still underway as to how long Gahagan should serve.
He's expected to be sentenced next month.
