Bangor -
The Stillwater exit off I-95 connects motorists to the Bangor Mall area and straight into the Bangor Parkade Shopping Center.
Making a left hand turn off this exit is prohibited and it's raised some concerns.
"We received several requests that the prohibition of the left hand turn from I -95 exit on to Stillwater be removed. The city council has asked me to start the process to investigate the possibility of allowing that left hand turn," said Bangor City Engineer, Art Morgan.
Some drivers ignore the restriction anyway and during a recent peak hour, a city traffic engineer noticed five cars make the illegal turn.
The Maine Department of Transportation has been contacted to begin an investigation into the change.
"After MDOT completes their traffic studies and we complete the public hearing process, if MDOT is convinced that this is beneficial to the area and economically feasible, then they would petition the Federal Highway Administration to lift this prohibition," said Morgan.
Residents are encouraged to contact city officials with their thoughts on the potential change.
