Horse Killed and Another Injured After Being Struck by a Car

Plymouth - Authorities say one horse was killed and another injured after being struck by a car in Plymouth.

The horses were being walked along the side of the road at about 8 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by a man driving home from dinner.

Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputy Noel Santiago tells the Bangor Daily News, that the dead horse's owner had just been thrown off, and that probably saved her life.

The car was driven by 31-year-old Phillip Hopkins of Plymouth.

The deputy said alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors and he did not expect any charges would be filed.

Hopkins and his passenger suffered minor injuries.
