Ed Kohtala Named New Boys Basketball Coach At Bangor High School

3

Bangor - The coveted Bangor High School boys basketball job was filled tonight at a school board meeting at city hall. After a long process, Ed Kohtala will take over for the legendary Roger Reed.

Kohtala takes over the Rams program after serving as an assistant coach for three years at UMaine. Kohtala's experience comes from all over, as he's made stops as a college assistant at Texas, Clemson and Florida.

His coaching career started at Mt. Blue High School after graduating from UMaine in 1981.

Kohtala has big shoes to fill, stepping in for Roger Reed, who led the Rams for the last 27 years, guiding them to eight state titles over that time.

Reed stepped down from the post in June.

Kohtala graduated with a degree in education from UMaine, so he'll be taking on a job as a math teacher at Bangor High School as well.
