Dover-Foxcroft -
A Milo man sentenced last week on federal drug and gun charges was sentenced on seperate state charges on Monday.
In Piscataquis County Superior Court Monday morning, 43-year-old Daren Bowden pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit arson, as well as a theft charge.
District Attorney Chris Almy said Bowden needed to get rid of a drug debt, so he agreed to burn down a camp in November of 2009 so the camp owner could collect insurance money.
On August 13, Bowden was sentenced in federal court to nine years in prison for possession with the intent to distribute oxycodone and possession of a firearm by a person addicted to a controlled substance.
Almy said all of these charges are related in a sense.
"All of these cases with Mr. Bowden come about because of his drug trafficking and drug addiction. He had debts to pay. One of the ways he got rid of the drug debts was to burn a camp for a drug distributor in Milo and in another case he stole a motor vehicle to get some money to buy drugs. Drugs had consumed his life and basically that's why he's in jail for a long time," said Almy.
Bowden was sentenced on Monday to three years for the two state felony charges. That will be served at the same time as his nine-year sentence out of federal court.

Video: Rent your car while you're out of town
The premise of a startup in northern California is to put your car to work, while you take a vacation. Travelers can leave their cars at the airport and visitors then can rent them for a minimal daily rate. "Flightcar" doesn't promise a payout, but if you leave your car you don't have to pay for parking. Julie Watts reports.
