This is what a baseball player dreams of: a chance to play for a championship in front of a packed crowd and a national television audience. That's what the two teams in the Senior League World Series final got to do today at Mansfield Stadium. It came down to Lemon Grove, California, and Guatemala City, Guatemala.
The teams were fired up heading into this one. The boys from California were eager to get out onto the field. The team from Guatemala let their flag fly proudly today. The US West rep had some help in the stands today though. A couple of the Maine guys helping with the chants!
But enough of that, let's get to the game! It would be Lemon Grove that would strike first. Dom Sawyer steps up in the 2nd with the bases loaded and ropes an RBI single to center. That brings in Frankie Nunez and it's 1-0 California.
In the third, Guatemala City responds in a big way. Juan Diego Montes rips a single down the right field line. That allows Carlos Esteves to score
to tie the game at one.
Two batters later, it's Julio Alvorado who singles through the left side
with the bases packed to bring in Fabian Vizcaino and Montes to make it 3-1 Guatemala City.
The Latin American representative would add three more runs in the 6th
and they would not look back. Guatemala City, Guatemala wins the Senior League World Series, 6-3 the final. For the players, this victory means a lot for their country.
