Dogs hit the Stage for their Big Break

Bangor - If you think your dog is the star of the family, the Penobscot Theatre in Bangor can give them a leading role.

The theatre held auditions today for the part of "Sandy" in their production of "Annie." Most companies bring in a profession dog for this role, but directors thought it would be a good idea to bring in a dog from the local community. Even though it's easier to used a stuff animal, they say there's nothing like the real thing.

Penobscot Theatre Artistic Director, Barri Newport, said, "A lot of people have said, 'Can't you just dress a person up as a dog?' but that's not really the production we're doing. We're doing a realistic production, we we need a real dog."

The audition isn't solely about the dog, owners are auditioned too. Directors believe they will select two dogs to full the role for their 25 shows coming up in December.
