Police Chase in Augusta

3

Augusta - A police chase took place in Augusta Thursday night.

We're told an officer tried to stop a Jeep on Mount Vernon Avenue around 8:15 pm,, but instead the driver went off the road near a baseball field.

The jeep was near College Carryout when the officer lost sight of it.

About five minutes after, another Augusta Police officer found tire tracks that led to Bond Brook, according to authorities.

The Jeep had apparently dropped 10 to 15 feet over an embankment and was found upside down in the water, with just the tires showing.

Police had concerns people were trapped inside, but the Jeep was empty.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Augusta Police at 626-2370.
