Sen. Susan Collins Weds in Hometown of Caribou

Caribou - U.S. Sen. Susan Collins has married a Washington consultant in her hometown in northern Maine.

The Maine Republican wed Thomas Daffron in front of family and friends Saturday at Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Caribou.

It was a family affair with the senator escorted down the aisle by her father, and her sisters serving as matron of honor and bridesmaid and her brother as groomsman. Daffron's best man was Steve Abbott, Collins' former longtime chief of staff and now athletic director UMaine.

The 73-year-old Daffron is chief operating officer of Jefferson Consulting Group. He served as chief of staff to Maine Sen. Bill Cohen and other senators.

This is the first marriage for the 59-year-old Collins, who was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996, and the second for Daffron.
