47th Annual Sipayik Indian Day Celebration at Pleasant Point Reservation


Perry, Pleasant Point Indian Reservation - A celebration in Perry this weekend is marking Maine's Native American heritage.

The 47th annual Sipayik Indian Day Celebration is Thursday, August 9th - Monday, August 13th.

It's at the Pleasant Point Indian Reservation.

Saturdays activities begin with a sunrise ceremony at 4:26 a.m. at Split Rock.

There are lot of activities throughout the day, including a horseshoe tournament, basketry demonstration, kids games and fireworks at dusk.

On Sunday, there's traditional Indian dancing, drumming and a community meal.

The events are free and open to everyone.
