Independent senate candidate Angus King is firing back at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for a television attack ad.
The commercial calls him the "king of spending", and say the former two-term governor left the state with a $1-billion budget shortfall.
King says, quote, "It's an easy potshot and it's wrong."
He says the ad refers not to a budget deficit but to a theoretical budget gap that's common before the governor and legislature set priorities.
The U.S. Chamber is endorsing republican Charlie Summers, who's also trying to fill the seat left open by Senator Olympia Snowe.
