UPDATE: Fatal Auburn Apartment Fire Started by Stove Burner Left On

Auburn - The state Fire Marshal's Office says a burner left on the stove is to blame for a deadly apartment fire in Auburn.

It started just after midnight Sunday.

Firefighters found 51-year-old Nicole Lagasse, still in her apartment. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators have ruled the fire an accident.

They say they found the kitchen burner, with a pot still on it.

Apparently Lagasse left the stove on, then went to bed and fell asleep.

Smoke detectors alerted other tenants to get out of the building.
