Unity Raceway Owner Says Season is in Jeopardy

Unity - The manager of the Unity Raceway stock car track says the rest of the season is in jeopardy because he can no longer afford to pay purse money.

George Fernald Jr., in his fifth and final season of leasing the track, says he pays $5,000 to $6,000 per week in purse money, but he's so deep in debt he can't pay any more.

He tells the Bangor Daily News, he has lost $20,000 this year due to low car counts and poor attendance.

He says he will continue to award trophies to the top three finishers in each race but if the drivers want purse money, they have to come up with it themselves.

He also plans on cutting admission prices beginning next week to keep the season alive.
