Shawmut Man Accused of Pulling Knife on Girlfriend

Shawmut, Waterville - A man from Shawmut accused of threatening his girlfriend with a knife is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon.

45-year-old James Chartrand is charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and violating conditions of release.

Waterville police went to the Budget Host Inn on Kennedy Memorial Drive around 2 a.m. Friday after a friend of the girlfriend called police.

They say they saw Chartrand and his girlfriend walking out of a room and arrested Chartrand.

Police say they found a folding knife in Chartrand's pants that he allegedly pulled on the woman.

She wasn't hurt in the incident.

Chartrand was booked in the Kennebec County jail on $500 bail.

He's due to be arraigned in Kennebec County District Court in Augusta.
