Maine Soldier Killed by Bus in South Korea

The family of an Army officer from Maine killed in South Korea says he died after being struck by a city bus in Seoul.

Capt. Davis Haas of Brunswick died July 28. He had been deployed to South Korea since 2011.

Haas' father, Joe Haas, called the death "senseless" especially since his son had survived two tours in Iraq "without a scratch."

Army officials say the 29-year-old Haas was crossing a street late at night when he was struck. Neither he nor the driver was intoxicated. The death remains under investigation by the Army and South Korean civil authorities.

Visiting hours for Haas are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Brunswick High School. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday followed by burial at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
