Bangor -
The Bangor Police Department invites you to their night out.
It's the first annual National Night Out Against Crime in Bangor.
More than 37 million people around the country participated in last year's event, so Bangor decided to join in on the fun.
The event will promote neighborhood watch programs in eastern Maine.
On August 7th at Second Street Park, there will be a Bangor Police K9 demonstration, a robot demonstration by the Bangor Bomb Squad, and of course, a bounce house for the kids.
The West Side Watch in Bangor was formed over a year ago, and since then, crime in that area has gone down.
Bangor Police Community Relations Officer, Jason McAmbley hopes that more communities will come together to keep their neighborhoods safe.
"Keeping an eye on each other and helping each other our when you get the opportunity. If somebody goes out of town, everyone is watching their house to make sure nothing goes wrong. If you need a ride to the airport this is who's going to give it to you and just 18 months ago, you didn't really know them," McAmbley explained.
