State to Save on Leases Expenses

Augusta - State government will save more than $1 million per year in lease expenses while giving two state agencies a new home under one roof, once they move into newly constructed office building at the edge of Augusta.

The 105,000 square-foot building, which is nearing completion in the Central Maine Commerce Center where at least four other state departments are located, was built by Opechee Construction Corp. of Belmont, N.H. State officials say the four-story, energy efficient brick and glass structure was built entirely by Maine workers.

It will be occupied starting November 1st by more than 700 employees of Maine Revenue Service and the Office of Information Technology, whose offices are now spread among more than a half-dozen locations around Augusta. The current leases are not being extended or renewed.
