Hiker Dies after Falling off a Trail in Acadia National Park

UMaine Student Killed in Hiking Accident

A New Hampshire woman died after falling off a trail on Champlain mountain Saturday.

A 22-year-old was hiking on Precipice trail with a friend when she fell 60 feet off the trail, according Richard Rechholtz, Acadia National Park Ranger Supervisor.

Another hiker called 9-1-1 and Mount Dessert Island Search and Rescue, Bar Harbor Fire Department, Acadia Mountain guides and Acadia Park Rangers all responded.

Life flight was called to the mountain where it took 5 1/2 hours to lift the woman.

She was Life Flighted to Eastern Maine Medical Center where she later died.

Her name has not been released.
