Nearly Five Hour Standoff in Hampden Ends in Murder-Suicide

Hampden - State Police say the bodies of a man and woman have been found inside a house on Marina Road in Hampden.

Police say the deaths are the result of a murder suicide.

The body of 53-year-old Katherine Hunt and an unnamed 53-year-old Lawrence Beaute were discovered by the State Police Tactical Team around noon on Friday. We're told the bodies were found in the kitchen of the house and both appear to have been shot.

Police were called the the house around 7 Friday morning to reports of a homicide and the male caller said he planned to kill himself.

Some homes and businesses in the area were evacuated, and Route 1A was shut down during the standoff.

The Osteopathic Center for Family Medicine shut its doors altogether.

"All of our patients had to be rescheduled, some of them would have come as far as Millinocket," said Dr. Jack Furbush.

Police say until now, there were no criminal complaints about the man in the house.

But for Robert Seeley, a man who lives across the street from the house where it happened, the news of such a tragedy is unsettling.

"It just makes you wonder you know, it's supposed to be Maine, you know, stuff's really going crazy you know, it's not safe anywhere apparently," he said.
