Jury Convicts Four Women of Criminal Trespass Stemming From November Protest at the Blaine House

3

Augusta - A jury in Augusta has convicted four women of criminal trespass stemming from a protest on the Blaine House grounds last November.

The Kennebec Journal in Augusta, says jurors deliberated about 30 minutes before returning a verdict on Thursday, the second day of the Superior Court trial.

Convicted were 49-year-old Elizabeth Burke of Union, 47-year-old Kimberly Cormier of Benton, 63-year-old Patricia Messier and 54-year-old Jenny Gray, both of Wiscasset. All of the women testified in their own defense Wednesday.

They were charged with criminal trespass for refusing police orders to leave the Blaine House grounds during the November protest by Occupy-Augusta participants.

In the same court in April, a mistrial was declared after a different jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
