Volunteers Needed for Maine Harvest for Hunger Picking Day

Houlton - The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is looking for volunteers to harvest a bumper crop of peas and beans and help feed Mainers in need.

Organizers of the Maine Harvest for Hunger program say a generous farmer in Houlton is willing to donate thousands of pounds of his crops. But he needs people to pick them.

He says the average picker can probably collect 15 to 20 pounds in an hour.

The picking date is set for Wednesday, August 1st.

If you're interested in helping out, you can contact Kate Garland at katherine.garland@maine.edu or 942-7396.
