Weather Service Confirms Tornado Touched Down in Woolwich


Woolwich - The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in eastern Maine Tuesday night.

Meteorologists say the tornado touched down at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town of Woolwich, just northeast of Bath in Sagadahoc County. It lasted for about two minutes.

It's estimated to be about 20 yards wide and two-tenths of a mile long, with top wind speeds reaching between 50-60 mph.

The Weather Service tells The Portland Press Herald, the tornado uprooted trees and flipped over lawn chairs. There were no reports of any injuries.
