Manchester -
There have been several women who have won multiple amateur golf titles in Maine over the last few decades. Spector, White, Cummings, Frost.... but there is now a new young gun taking over the amateur game in Maine.
Wednesday was the third and final round of the
event and it was at Augusta Country Club this year. The leader going into the final 18 holes was Leslie Guenther. It was by just one shot and she would have to play well Wednesday.
She was steady over the three days but an 83 dropped her back and she finished 2nd in the event.
The first round leader Pennie Cummings shot a 74 on day one but that was her best round. Here on number 11 she found the range and made birdie, but Cummings settled for 3rd in the tourney after an 83.
One of the best shots of the day was this putt by Heidi Haylock of Turner. The 40 footer was on the 11th hole and it found the bottom of the cup for par. Her daughter Jade was happy to retrieve the prize.
But the big prize goes to Emily Bouchard. She was down 11 shots after day one and four shots coming into this final round. All she did was card a tournament low round of 1 under par 71 Wednesday and won this years amateur by eight shots. Its her 2nd state title in a row. Emily Bouchard setting the standard for womens golf in Maine.
