Mapleton - A pilot from Ashland walked away Sunday night from a plane crash in Mapleton.

The FAA will now try to determine why the plane went down in a field on Route 227.

State police say they got a call about 6 p.m.

39-year-old Patrick Driscoll told investigators his single engine Cessna suffered engine failure.

He said he tried to use his plane floats to land on Hanson Lake but didn't have enough altitude. Instead the plane landed in a group of trees.

Investigators say it has substantial damage to at least one float, the fuselage, propeller and right wing.

The FAA is expected to be at the crash site Tuesday.
