Penobscot Theatre Moving Scene Shop to New Home

Bangor - A portion of the Penobscot Theatre in Bangor will have a new home soon.

Volunteers started moving its scene shop, which is used to construct production sets, out of its space on Somerset Street this weekend.

Now, it will be housed at the old Jordan's Meats factory on Thatcher Street in the city.

The space was donated and staff said it will help them continue a tradition that's unique to the Bangor theatre.

"This aspect of our operation is a very important part of what we do and what we offer the community. It's what makes us different than the Maine Center for Arts, or other theatres that truck in their sets and assemble them. You know, everything Penobscot Theatre does is handcrafted," said theatre trustee, Mary Budd.

Volunteers will be moving their old sets to the new spot over the next few weeks.

If you'd like to help, you can call the theatre at 942-3333.
