Maine Army Unit is Sent Over Seas

A Maine Army National Guard unit is heading over seas.

Members of the 488th Military Police Company were given a send-off ceremony Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center.

Capt. Eric Dos Santos is leading 122 military police officers from the Maine Army National Guard unit to Afghanistan.

The unit is based in Waterville with a detachment in Houlton.

Guard officials say the unit will be in Afghanistan for a year to work on security matters for coalition and Afghan forces.
