Bangor/Orono -
Some movie theaters across the world have decided to hold off on showing The Dark Knight Rises because of the shooting in Colorado.
In the Bangor area, shows are going on as planned.
Locally, people say they still feel safe in theaters.
Midnight showings of the new Batman movie in the Bangor area were packed.
" There were four screens full of people, just enjoying the film," said Gibran Graham, who was at a midnight showing of the film.
The news of the tragedy in Colorado spread fast, and got people in Maine talking.
" Who would think that someone would go to a movie theater to do a shooting," said Carl Hanson, a Hampden resident.
" I've never heard of anything like that," added Pastelle LeBlanc, who is visiting Maine from Canada.
" Some people are crazy and we have to realize that they don't have the same consideration that normal people have for human life. So we have to treat them accordingly. We're treating them with kids gloves in my opinion," said Tom Lavertu, who was in Bangor Friday afternoon.
Most people say they're on alert. Police tell us they haven't received any requests from local theaters to provide security, but in Orono police say they will have crews drive by the theater.
" Not too worried to go see the movie, but I feel like Bangor is pretty safe overall," said Hanson.
" I think we need more security. Not more police, but we need to concentrate more on the people that are psycho. People knew this guy was crazy and no one said anything," said Lavertu.
" It's really important that we push forward and we don't change what we're doing in our daily lives, but it's important to learn from this and reflect to see how we can get society past this happening or happening again," added Graham.
The bottom line, Mainers say they'll still see The Dark Knight Rises and other films, but they will be checking their surroundings while in theaters.
