Palmyra Soup Kitchen May Need New Home

3

Palmyra - The soup kitchen at the Palmyra Baptist Worship Church has been serving the community for fourteen years.

"We average about 75 to 100 meals when we open up so that's like 200 meals, 300 meals a week that we're preparing for people," said Pastor Herb Pearl.

With hundreds of meals served every week, they know times are tough. But the property owner tells us times are tough for her too. She said she had no choice but to put the property on the market.

"I mean those people that own the building have been good to us really. They've waited and waited and waited, and we've tried to work things and payments and stuff and they're having a hard time too," said Pastor Herb.

The property owner said if the church could find a way to finance the property, she'd be willing to work with them. But Pastor Herb knows the church just doesn't have the money to buy it and at this point, they have no where else to go.

"You get tired of asking people for funds to keep things running because they struggle too, you know. And it's really tough. So I'm just sitting here contemplating and not feeling sorry for myself one bit, because if the building gets sold, we're going to look for someplace else to go to keep this thing going," said Pastor Herb.

He's hoping the community he's helped for years might now be able to pay it forward, perhaps with a donation or maybe an idea for a new facility that the soup kitchen can call home.

If you think you might be able to help out, call Pastor Herb at 416-5976 or stop by the soup kitchen at 868 Main Street in Palmyra.
