Vassalboro -
Here are some of the local competitors in the final round of the New England Women's Golf Amateur. There's Sarah Hansen from Val Halla in Cumberland, carrying the bag, playing the old fashioned way. Here on 16, Hansen just missing a mid-range putt. She'd finish in the top 50.
16 was a tough hole for many players today because of the green. Alice Hwang from Bangor was able to land one in a good spot. Her third shot hits the dance floor. She'd bogey the 16th and finish in the top 25.
Hwang played with Prudence Hornberger from Turner Highlands Country Club. She had a little trouble staying on the green, but a nice chip here helps her save a seven.
Over to the 9th. That's where Ashley Chubbuck, the young Erskine Academy player, finishes out her round by sinking a putt.
Your winner...Kristin MacDonald, 23-year-old from Billerica, Mass. MacDonald shooting a +6, 222 for a three-day championship total. Here's Bangor's Alice Hwang after her round on what it means to represent Eastern Maine.
