Birthday Turns Tragic When Man Drowns in Pembroke

Pembroke - A birthday celebration turned tragic Monday in Pembroke.

The Maine Warden Service says 44-year-old Anthony Lebretton drowned in the Pennamaquan River.

He and his family were celebrating his birthday.

Authorities say Lebretton jumped from a bridge into the river, a thirteen foot drop. He never resurfaced.

Family members pulled him out and performed CPR before paramedics arrived but were unable to revive him.

The Warden Service says Lebretton died on the way to the hospital.

We're told this is the fourth drowning in the last twenty years at that location.
