Plan to Clean Asbestos Heavy Site in Wilton

Wilton - Wilton Recycling has begun working actively to protect the public from asbestos at a demolition site it owns.

A written remediation plan for the site is due to be submitted to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection on Monday.

The demolition site, formerly Forster Mill, has been the focus of DEP enforcement efforts since last July, when the Occupational Safety and Health Administration first documented high levels of the cancer-causing material.

Adam Mack, of Wilton Recycling, tells the Morning Sentinel that the company has boarded up windows, covered a debris pile and a Dumpster with secured tarps, secured a fence, and blocked a path.

Officials think the site should be cleaned up within a few months.
