Bangor Bar Holds It's First Annual Autism Awareness Music Festival

3

Bangor - Bangor musicians came together today for a good cause...

The 300 Bar and Grill in Bangor started their first annual festival to raise money for autism awareness. Bar owners partnered with the Maine Autism Alliance to create a musical event. All local musicians came out to show their support for the cause as they debuted their new music.

A study in December of 2011 revealed over 2,800 children in the pine tree state have autism.

Event organizers say today is about awareness. Executive Director of the Maine Autism Alliance, Heidi Bowden said, "The foundation of the Maine Autism Alliance is education, as we call it, support, education and awareness. So education is huge, absolutely."

"We want to raise money for the benefit and also more awareness. A lot of people have friends and family with autism so it's a great cause," Musican George Skala shared.

The money raised today will go to the Maine Autism Conference on October 13th in Augusta and towards a support group in Bangor.
