Four Arrested on Drug Charges in Lewiston

Lewiston - Maine authorities say four people have been arrested on drug charges in Lewiston under a new policing policy.

Officials say over 38 grams of crack cocaine and about $5,000 in cash was seized on Thursday night.

The Lewiston Police Department is working with state, county and federal agencies to respond to multiple shootings in Lewiston since mid-May. Officials say drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession is believed to be contributing to violence.

The new policing policy, called project Hot Spot, combines community outreach, increased law enforcement presence and aggressive prosecution of violations.
