Augusta -
The Academy of Natural Sciences at Good Will-Hinckley is the first school in the state to advance toward becoming a charter school.
The Maine Charter School Commission approved the academy's application on Friday.
It's the first high school in Maine to focus on agriculture, forestry and independent living.
If approved as a charter school, it will open in September.
